San Diego Roundup : Power Boat Races on Mission Bay to Be Held This Weekend

The Pacific Power Boat Club Inc. will sponsor races Saturday and Sunday on Mission Bay at East Vacation Island off Ski Beach from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The races, which include competition for inboard and outboard hydroplanes, stock outboards, outboard performance craft and mini-boats, are sanctioned by the American Power Boat Assn. and are U.S. national points races.

Parking and admission to races are free.

Tryouts for a men’s open division basketball league will be at 1 p.m. June 13 and 14 at the Memorial Recreation Center, 2902 Mercy Ave.

The league, which is sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Assn., will consist of eight 12-man teams. Games will be played on Saturdays and Sundays. League play will begin June 20 and 21.

Players with intercollegiate eligibility remaining or who have been recruited and enrolled in a college or university may participate in compliance with NCAA rules. Current college players must have written permission from their athletic directors.

The application fee is $30, which includes tryouts, a jersey and game shoes.
