The Philippine Commission on Elections proclaimed 20 candidates elected to the 24-member Senate. All but one of those elected in the May 11 voting were backed by President Corazon Aquino. Joseph Estrada, a movie actor, was the only opposition candidate to win. But former Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile was listed in 22nd place and could capture one of the four remaining seats. About 10% of the vote remains to be tallied. More than 140 candidates, about two-thirds of them Aquino supporters, have been declared elected to the 200-seat lower house.
