Gary Hart sent publishers an outline of a book about his political career, but it omits the end of his quest for the presidency. The New York Times reported that the book was tentatively titled “Stepping Stones Across an Era: The Unfinished Story of a Generation.” The newspaper said that the outline, “The dream is dead,” begins with Hart’s reaction to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The outline describes Hart’s Senate career and his 1984 presidential campaign. It does not mention the allegation that he had an affair with actress Donna Rice, a story that led him to abandon his 1988 presidential campaign on May 8.
