Acquisition of Airco Boosts United Education’s Profits

United Education and Software said its earnings surged 173% in the first quarter ended April 30 to $432,000, or 13 cents a share, from $158,000, or 5 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue rose 117% to $15.8 million from $7.3 million in the year-earlier period.

The Encino-based company, which owns 24 technical schools, attributed the gains to its acquisition in January of 10 trade schools for $11.5 million from Airco Educational Services.
