Marina del Rey attorney John Robert Malpezzi was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison for his conviction in an ill-fated scheme to import 1,100 pounds of cocaine from Bolivia. Saying that Malpezzi, a lawyer who specialized in drug cases, has “squandered his opportunities,” U.S. District Judge Ferdinand F. Fernandez also imposed a 3 1/2-year sentence on Jose Luis Leon, a Los Angeles bail bondsman convicted with Malpezzi and two other co-defendants in the case.
