Former Ku Klux Klansman David Duke announced in Atlanta that he is a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination and said he sees his chief opponent as the Rev. Jesse Jackson. Duke, a New Orleans resident who now heads an organization called the National Assn. for the Advancement of White People, said the confrontation will provoke intense interest in the political process and stimulate a heavy vote in the primaries.
