The Nation : Loan-Shark Ring Broken

Share

The Justice Department said it cracked the biggest loan-sharking ring in the nation’s history and arrested nine of 11 men charged with collecting $3.5 million from 350 victims through “fear, intimidation and force.” “This undoubtedly is the largest loan-sharking operation seen in the United States,” James Ahearn, FBI Boston director, told a news conference. The 11 suspects include two former police officers and a bank director, and all but two were arrested in the sweeping, two-year state and federal investigation of organized crime in Boston.
