‘Urban Ore’

Share

Many thanks for the insightful, thorough article by Ellen Stein Harris (Editorial Pages, June 1), “Mining the Urban Ore,” on reducing, reusing and recycling our “waste.”

Los Angeles residents who want to help solve the trash problem and to save mountain canyons from being dumped in any further can take two immediate actions:

1--Let their City Council representative know they are supportive of the unanimous City Council action ordering the drafting of a plan requiring homeowners to separate recyclable materials.

2--Let their Assembly members and state senators know they support AB 1489. This bill would block expansion of existing dumps or creation of new dumps in much of the Santa Monica mountains and in the Rim of the Valley Corridor (near Sunshine and Lopez Canyon landfills).

Now that some of our elected representatives are acting on these matters, it’s important that they hear from us!
