Louisiana Executes 3rd Inmate in 5 Days
Jimmy Glass, a high school dropout who shot and killed a bound-and-gagged couple on Christmas Eve, 1982, was executed early Friday in Louisiana’s electric chair.
Glass, 25, of Springhill, La., became the third Louisiana inmate executed in five days, after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his appeal without comment late Thursday.
When asked if he had a final statement, Glass said: “Yeah, I think I’d rather be fishing.”
Later in the day, the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans refused to block the execution of Glass’ convicted accomplice, Jimmy Wingo, 35, and his appeal moved to the Supreme Court.
Wingo, who is scheduled to be executed Tuesday, also appealed Friday to the state Pardons Board for a stay.
Glass and Wingo were condemned for shooting to death Erline Brown, 51, and her husband, Newton, 55, during a burglary.
