After seven years, the graduation rate for University of Washington’s 1980 class of football recruits is 46%, the school reported.
It was revealed in February that only 8 of 28, or 28% of the players, had earned a degree five years after enrolling. The overall rate after five years for the freshman class of 1980 was 50%.
Gertrude Peoples, the university’s athletic academic counselor, said some players earlier identified as non-graduates have graduated, bringing the rate for the 1980 recruits to 46%.
Among those was sterling Hinds, a running back from Canada. He became the 13th player of the 1980 class to earn a diploma Saturday at the graduation ceremony at Hec Edmundson Pavilion.
