Americans are losing confidence in bank accounts.

Americans are less confident about the safety of their accounts, according to a national poll by SRI Research, based in Lincoln, Neb., and Bank Advertising News, a financial newspaper published in North Palm Beach, Fla. The survey found that 13% of account holders felt their money was not quite as safe as a year ago. Depositors at savings and loans felt even less confident about their savings, with 18% saying they were more worried. Bank closings and a poorer economy were the most frequently cited reasons for a loss in trust.
