Long Beach : Building Freeze Extended

Share

The Long Beach City Council this week agreed to extend a building moratorium for the neighborhood known as the Franklin / Burbank area until May of next year or until new zoning is adopted.

The moratorium originally was scheduled to end July 1, but because various studies and zoning amendments which would affect the neighborhood are in the works, residents and got an extension.

City officials implemented a moratorium last year after hiring a firm to study multifamily developmental standards in hopes of assuring that new development would be compatible with existing neighborhoods.

Until new zoning is established for the area, which currently has mixed zoning, homeowners in the south Long Beach neighborhood want a freeze on new development, resident Bob Pace explained.

The area affected by the moratorium is bounded by Junipero Avenue on the east, Orange Avenue on the west, 10th Street on the north and Broadway on the south.
