The Department of Education said it may seek legal action against a unit of Chicago-based Operation PUSH to recover its share of misspent and undocumented federal funds, the Chicago Tribune reported. PUSH for Excellence Inc., the student motivational program founded by civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, owes more than $1.4 million to the departments of education, labor and commerce, according to a federal audit of the corporation’s use of more than $4.9 million in federal grants. Jackson no longer has any official connection with the program.
