South Korea’s opposition leaders have assured NBC that its $400-million investment in the 1988 Olympic Games is safe--they plan no disruption of the international event, according to Newsweek. Activists assured the network that they have no objection to the Summer Games and that their position would not change if they assume power in the next year. NBC executives were not available for comment on the report. NBC has exclusive broadcast rights to the 1988 Games and is waiting for the nationwide street and campus demonstrations for democratic reforms, now in their 13th day, to subside before opening a permanent office in the capital, the magazine said. NBC has no formal insurance policy on its investment in the 1988 Games, but has an arrangement with the Korean Exchange Bank, backed by a consortium of international banks, that would compensate it should the Games fold.
