Citing increased production costs to handle larger volume, Datametrics Corp. said its net income plummeted 54% even though revenues were up 27% for its second quarter that ended May 2.

The Chatsworth-based maker of computer printers and peripherals for the military earned $242,000, or 4 cents a share, compared to $525,000, or 11 cents a share, in the same period a year earlier. Revenue rose to $5.6 million from $4.4 million a year ago.

Chairman Garland S. White said the increased revenue was from new product shipments and up-front payments for engineering services. He said lower earnings were due to the company’s efforts to gear up for its $30-million order backlog .
