Acquittal of Subway Shooter
I have to disagree with law professor Alan M. Dershowitz’s opinion in his article (Editorial Pages, June 17), “Goetz Jury Resorts to Lawlessness.”
Goetz did not take the law into his own hands. He defended himself. He used a pistol because that is the type of tool made to defend one’s self.
If he wasn’t bothered by those youths he probably would not have fired his pistol in self-defense, and he would have remained anonymous. But he did fire, and I have to applaud him. The police were not there to protect him, therefore he had to protect himself.
