ART
Five people suspected of stealing the head of a warrior from China’s internationally famous terracotta army were arrested Sunday during an attempted sale of the archeological artifact for the equivalent of $81,000, the New China News Agency reported Tuesday. Police said that a local farmer, two workers, and the manager and a guest at a hotel in the city of Xian have been arrested in the art theft. The life-size head matched the description of one stolen last February from the warehouse of the archeological team in charge of excavating the site. Hundreds of terracotta horses and armored warriors have been excavated since 1974 from the tomb near Xian of China’s first emperor (259-210 BC).
