WASHINGTON — The Senate Judiciary Committee approved by voice vote Tuesday the nomination of Philip M. Pro, a U.S. magistrate in Las Vegas, to succeed Harry E. Claiborne, a federal judge who was impeached and removed from office last year.
Pro, 40, has been a federal magistrate since 1980. Before that, he was an assistant U.S. attorney, a deputy Nevada attorney general, a lawyer in private practice and a deputy public defender for Clark County, Nev.
