Santa Monica : Rent Board OKs Record Budget
The Rent Control Board has approved a record $4.6-million budget for the 1987-88 fiscal year and is expected to raise tenants’ monthly fees from $7 to $10 a month.
The budget is an increase of $900,000 from last year’s budget, and board Administrator Howell Tumlin said the extra revenue is needed to fund attorneys who will be conducting hearings to determine the maximum rent levels on the city’s 32,000 rent-controlled apartments. The monthly fee increase may be waived for low-income tenants.
