Kristine Finnstrom, a deaf student who was inspired by silent movies to attend film school, was given the Mary Pickford Scholarship when USC’s School of Cinema-Television announced the names of this year’s support recipients.
The awards were announced at the annual meeting of Cinema Circulus, the school’s support group.
Glenn Cote, a student putting himself through school, won the Lewis Kingsley Foundation award, which was endowed by a former student who also paid for his own education. A three-year scholarship from the Princess Grace Foundation went to Ron Ward.
Awards in writing were presented to William Donovan, Gwendolyn O’Donnell, Chris Borkgren and Stephan Woloszczuk; a writing and directing award went to Robert Morris and James Slocum; the Jack Oakie award for comedy in film was given to Roy Unger, and the Verna Fields editing award was won by Ed Marsh.
