Paul Gann’s Crusade Against AIDS
Fairbanks’ article contains one of the most despicable attitudes I have ever read in any piece published in your paper.
He said that Paul Gann has “a special right now to tell us what to think of AIDS,” that no “lesser known person could ever achieve,” and implies that, because Gann is not homosexual or an intravenous drug user, it is he, above anyone else, we should take for our guru on AIDS.
In doing so Fairbanks has purposefully, cynically exploited the fate of a dying heterosexual man, and dismissed the thousands of homosexuals and others who have died, or are dying of this disease as unworthy of voice or opinion.
