A 71-year-old alcohol abuse therapist accused of ordering alcoholics to strip and then flogging them pleaded guilty today to one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Alfred Joseph O’Connor of Nerstrand entered his plea in Dakota County District Court. Judge John J. Daly set sentencing for Aug. 31.

O’Connor contended that he had helped people overcome their drinking problems, but he testified today that he received sexual gratification from his actions.

He had been charged with sexually abusing a 17-year-old boy from December, 1985, to April, 1986, by whipping the naked youth on his buttocks and feet.

O’Connor had also faced charges that he tried to sexually abuse a police officer who posed as an alcoholic during a two-month undercover operation.

He faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine or both.
