Well, Sgt. Friday, the facts are these: “Dragnet,” the new motion picture featuring Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks, led the way in last weekend’s box office derby. The cinematic sendup of the cop series arrested $10.5 million at 1,337 stations. Mel Brooks’ “Spaceballs,” another debut effort, finished second (though it opened Wednesday rather than Friday), ringing up $6.6 million on 1,384 planets. Four holdovers all did more than $5 million in business during the very busy weekend: “Witches of Eastwick,” with $6.3 million at 1,317 covens; “Beverly Hills Cop II,” with $5.6 million at 2,191 houses; “Predator,” with $5.2 million at 1,632 screens; and “The Untouchables,” with $5.1 million at 1,491 gin joints. Stanley Kubrick’s “Full Metal Jacket,” the critics’ darling which also opened this past weekend, took in $2.2 million at only 215 theaters--a whopping $10,313 per screen.
