Drug Tests: Passed and sent to the Senate on a 54-14 vote a bill (AB 2113) by Assemblyman Gerald Eaves (D-Rialto) to require professional truck and bus drivers to pass a drug test before they can be licensed to drive those vehicles.

Veterans: Passed and sent to the Senate on a 58-15 vote a bill (AB 200) by Assemblyman Steve Clute (D-Riverside) to authorize construction of a second state veterans’ home costing not more than $200 million in the Southern California area.

Pregnancy: Passed and sent to the Senate on a 65-3 vote a bill (AB 1800) by Speaker Pro Tem Mike Roos (D-Los Angeles) to appropriate $2.5 million in state aid for counseling and educating pregnant teen-agers and teen-age parents.

Japanese: Granted final approval on a 57-4 vote to a resolution (SJR 21) by Sen. Ralph Dills (D-Gardena) urging the President and the Congress to approve laws to compensate Japanese-Americans who were sent to internment camps during World War II. Senate Floor Action:

Offshore Oil: Passed and returned to the Assembly for concurrence in amendments on a 23-12 vote a resolution (AJR 12) by Assemblywoman Jackie Speier (D-South San Francisco) urging U.S. Interior Secretary Donald P. Hodel to revise a proposed five-year offshore oil and gas leasing plan for California to more effectively preserve the state’s coastal environment. Committee Action:

School Bonds: The Senate Appropriations Committee approved a bill (SB 703) by Sen. Gary K. Hart (D-Santa Barbara) to place a $600-million higher education bond issue on next year’s general election ballot. A 6-0 vote sent the bill to the Senate floor.
