The Israeli Supreme Court ordered police to explain their failure to investigate Trade and Industry Minister Ariel Sharon on charges he barred frozen lamb imports to benefit his Israeli sheep ranch, court officials said. Ran Cohen, a member of Parliament from the leftist Citizens’ Rights Movement, charged that Sharon tried to create a shortage of lamb to force the price to rise. A spokesman for Sharon could not be reached for comment. The court gave Police Commissioner David Kraus and Atty. Gen. Yosef Harish 90 days to explain why a criminal investigation should not be opened.
