A Ramada Inn in Palm Springs was sued by a travel agency and a group of lesbians who said the hotel reneged on reservations for poolside rooms on a weekend during last April’s Dinah Shore LPGA golf tournament. The suit, filed in Riverside County Superior Court in Indio by the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, charges the hotel owners with violating the state Unruh Act, which prohibits businesses from discriminating on the basis of race, sex or nationality. Attorney Tracy Jordan said the group reserved more than 40 rooms for April 3 and 4. It also reserved a large banquet room for an evening of entertainment. A hotel management member denied that the cancellation was discrimination. “Basically,” said Jin-Yi Suk, “they didn’t meet our contract.” She did not elaborate.
