Acre of Beauty

It is so nice to remember those who should not be forgotten.

As a former newspaper publisher (and before that, an employee of the old San Diego Sun), I greatly appreciate the “Reflections” essay (June 21) on Frank Antonicelli.

Its sensitivity calls to mind the difference that a person like Kate Sessions could make, with such dedicated follow-up as shown by Frank and Elsie Antonicelli.

As quoted in the article, “some plants must be watered twice a day, even on holidays, plants don’t take a day off.”

Since 1910, Mission Hills Nursery has obviously been given an abundance of TLC by people who love their work even beyond material gain. A refreshing thought in this materialistic day and age.

We particularly liked the reference to the enjoyment of hobbyists and people who come from retirement homes. This “botanical garden” was not accomplished by mirrors, and we applaud the manual labor that has gone into this acre of beauty.
