KNITS--FROM TANKS TO TUNICS--ARE AT the top of the fashion charts for summer. Actress Shelley Hack shows her knack for adding a dash of originality to cotton knits. She’ll team a finely detailed sweater with well-worn jeans. Or she’ll buy two basic rib-knit undershirts and sew them together for a double layer of comfort that isn’t too sheer. Ahead for Hack: her own TV-film production company, authorship of a screenplay and a fact-finding trip to Africa to prepare for volunteer work with the Pygmy Fund, a Malibu-based organization that educates and protects the Efe tribe in Zaire.
