“E-Z Listening Disc.” Devo. Ryko. Schlock versions of its jerky new-wave rock songs should come as no surprise from a group that once opened its own shows as a “born-again” band called Dove. The arrangements on this 70-minute disc (once available on cassette only, now CD only) aren’t quite the narcotic wash of elevator music--they have a little more force and definition than that, bringing them to the level of music that would accompany a shopping-mall fashion show, or the entrance of a quiz show host. The concept of anonymity seems to be the main point, but some of the tracks actually have personality, particularly “Swelling, Itching Brain,” with its Martin Denny jungle sound, and “Jocko Homo” as a mambo. ** 1/2
