Teamster ‘Ghost’ Charged in Alleged Remodeling Fraud

A former “ghost worker” for Teamsters President Jackie Presser has been charged by the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office with grand theft for allegedly taking big down payments from two homeowners and then failing to do promised remodeling.

John A. Nardi, 45, of Mission Viejo, was in Los Angeles County Jail on Tuesday with bond set at $25,000 and is to be arraigned today in Municipal Court.

Deputy Dist. Atty. John Krayniak said Nardi accepted $10,000 from one homeowner and $2,500 from another but never started the work. Krayniak said investigators believe there may have been many more victims over a two-year period.

Nardi, the son of one-time Teamsters official Jack Nardi Sr., who was killed in a car bomb explosion, testified last year that Presser put him on the payroll of the union’s Cleveland local without requiring him to do any work.
