Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole (R-Kan.) said he will push for early confirmation hearings on the nomination of Judge Robert H. Bork to the U.S. Supreme Court. In talking to reporters in Washington, Dole expressed hope that the Senate Judiciary Committee would take up the matter before the end of the summer session. However, one Democratic aide to the committee, who requested anonymity, said it is unlikely that the hearings will open before mid-September. He said that Democrats on the panel would meet today to discuss the scheduling of what is expected to be a lengthy examination of the conservative judge’s qualifications.
