The Rev. Robert Schuller has agreed to participate in congressional hearings later this month on the finances of TV evangelists, a spokesman for the ministry said Wednesday. Schuller founded the 10,000-member Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove.
Schuller, who is touring the Far East, accepted an invitation from Rep. Jake J. Pickle, (D-Texas), chairman of the oversight subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee, to appear at the hearing, Schuller spokesman Michael Nason said.
Also invited to appear, Nason said, are evangelists Jim and Tammy Bakker, Jerry Falwell, Jimmy Swaggart and Pat Robertson.
“Recent events surrounding the PTL have cast shadows around television evangelistic ministries which I feel need to be cleared in public,” Pickle said in a letter to Schuller.
