Transpacific Race : Pyewacket Remains in Front
Roy Disney’s 68-foot sloop, Pyewacket, continued at the front of the fleet in the 2,225-mile Transpacific yacht race Wednesday but lost its fleet handicap lead to a Class B boat.
Pyewacket, which sails out of the California Yacht Club, reported that it was 689 miles from the Diamond Head finish line.
Racy II, a 50-foot sloop from the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco, took over the fleet handicap lead.
Citius, a Santa Cruz 70 from the Los Angeles Yacht Club, was 710 miles out, while Blondie, another Santa Cruz 70 from the Los Angeles Yacht Club, and Hotel California, a 68-foot sloop from the California Yacht Club, were both 716 miles out. Ragtime, a 62-foot sloop from the Long Beach Yacht Club, was close behind with 718 miles to go.
Race officials said that if the 18- to 25-knot winds continue, as forecast by the National Weather Service, Pyewacket could finish as early as Friday.
