CBS Inc.-owned WCBS-TV in New York has shelved a plan to move the “CBS Evening News with Dan Rather” from its customary 7 p.m. time slot in favor of an entertainment show, station officials said Wednesday. Anchorman Dan Rather and producer Tom Bettag opposed the proposed move, saying that it would damage the ratings of the program. Station executives said that their research showed that the move would not help the station in the time period without hurting the news program.
