CHULA VISTA MAN WINS MUSIC PRIZE

NEW YORK — Gustavo Romero, 22, of Chula Vista, Calif., was among five pianists to receive prizes from the Juilliard School in the ninth annual Gina Bachauer International Piano Scholarship Competition.
Twelve pianists from the United States and abroad took part in the final rounds. A total of $32,000 in prizes were awarded.
The four other recipients were Dan-Wen Wei, 22, of the People’s Republic of China; Jeannie Yu, 20, of Korea; Alvina Chiu, 23, of Taiwan; and Christina Kiss, 29, of Franklin Lakes, N.J.
