AST’s New Laser Printers to Be Equipped With PostScript

Share

AST Research Inc. of Irvine said it will begin making laser printers equipped with PostScript, the leading control language for printers used in the booming desktop publishing market.

AST said its new TurboLaser/PS printer will sell for $3,995, about $500 less than any competing PostScript-equipped product. The company will also sell add-on PostScript boards for existing TurboLasers, which use a less sophisticated control language.

The addition of PostScript will allow AST’s laser printers to be connected to personal computers made by Apple and other manufacturers. AST’s existing laser printers were designed for use with IBM and IBM-compatible machines.
