Jazz and blues stars including Miles Davis, George Benson and B. B. King were among 1,000 musicians scheduled to play at the North Sea Festival in the Netherlands over the weekend. The show, to raise money for United Nations refugee support efforts, was to be filmed for a “Jazz-Aid” program for worldwide TV distribution. The Hague’s 11-year-old festival is said to be the world’s biggest jazz gathering, and organizers expected to attract 40,000 people this year.
