No matter whose side you are on in the Iran-contra hearings, the messages that keep coming at me from the leaders of our land are: (1) you can do anything (even outside the law) as long as it is a cause you believe strongly in and (2) if you get caught, you can cover it up as long as you say it was an error in judgment only to do so.
I get the strong sense that many well meaning people out there think the only thing wrong here is that this is being exposed--and for that they blame the press. Have the lessons of history been forgotten? The Nazi government behaved outside the laws of God and man and did so covertly in the beginning; the Ku Klux Klan that strongly believes that what it does is right, meets secretly and acts outside the law; and I could go on and on.
I implore everyone to listen carefully to what is gong on here and think. It may seem like small potatoes, but most assuredly it will have a profound effect upon the behavior of future generations.
