Twenty-six emergency and medical workers were exposed to large amounts of blood from an AIDS victim during an emergency room incident last month at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, the hospital confirmed. Police and paramedics helped transport the victim, who had been shot and was bleeding profusely, to the emergency room, where hospital personnel tried to save his life without wearing goggles or full protection, a hospital employee said. The shooting victim was tested for AIDS after emergency room personnel determined he would not live, because he was being considered as a potential organ donor, a Grant spokesman said.
