Police Commission Reelects Officials

Attorneys Robert M. Talcott and Barbara L. Schlei were unanimously reelected president and vice president, respectively, of the Los Angeles Police Commission, the civilian board that oversees the Los Angeles Police Department.

Both were appointed by Mayor Tom Bradley in 1984 to fill vacancies on the five-member board.

Talcott, 54, was elected president in 1985. Schlei, also 54, was chosen as vice president that same year.

Although City Charter provisions generally require that Los Angeles’ governmental boards elect new officers annually, the Police Commission skipped elections in 1986. Board members said privately that elections within the commission were put off last year because there was no “consensus of opinion” over who would fill the president’s chair.
