Ailing state Treasurer Jesse M. Unruh was released from UCLA Medical Center, where he has been undergoing treatment since June 24 for a recurrence of prostate cancer. An Unruh press aide said the veteran politician returned to his Marina del Rey home and that he is in good condition and “in great spirits.” His chief deputy, Elizabeth Whitney, said Unruh has been in frequent contact with his office while being hospitalized to adjust his medications. She also said Unruh will not make what had become an annual trip to New York City later this month for appearances before bond rating agencies and for the sale of $800 million in short-term notes on behalf of the state.
