Communications Satellite Corp. posted a loss of $83.8 million for the second quarter, compared to a profit of $14 million a year ago. The results reflect the Washington-based company’s decision to dispose of assets and operations in a restructuring. Chairman Irving Goldstein said Comsat will sell its manufacturing businesses, dispose of two direct-broadcast satellites and realign its remaining, profitable businesses to focus on two areas: maintaining the competitiveness of Comsat’s regulated satellite communications and developing its government systems and entertainment distribution businesses.
