More on Lite Romance

Paul Ciotti has portrayed the American Single Woman with such lack of dignity that he borders on being insulting (“Lite Romance,” June 14). Never once did he refer to the fact that for every man who’s walked out on his wife for a younger woman, there’s an older woman who’s chosen to leave her husband just to

be alone. Women have become more educated and self-sufficient, and, at last, many of them have a choice. There are plenty of women who are not interested in commitment for the same reasons as men: They’d much rather be driving a Porsche than a station wagon, and they, too, would prefer “all the relationship but half the baggage.” If anyone’s hiding behind closed blinds, it’s successful women who have worked twice as hard as any man just to have the privilege to be free.
