Hot About Those Early Fireworks

Share

As I lay in bed, body tense in anticipation of the next bang, I was stricken by the audacity of our City Council. How dare they wake up the elderly and infirm of our city--not to mention the sleepy--at 5 a.m. July 4 to satisfy the needs of a few thousand pyromaniacs and all-night revelers from out of town. Their supposedly quiet fireworks had babies screaming to our boundaries north and east.

If slumber is disturbed by the discordant sounds of construction on any Saturday before 9 a.m., the police will come to the rescue. Should the council vote to reset its pyrotechnic alarm clock for such a ridiculous hour next year, the gendarmes will not assist, but those council members who by their votes demonstrate such contempt for the vast majority of their constituents will be awakened from their own slumber come election time.
