MCI Communications’ income was cut in half ,to $8 million, during the second quarter. Last year’s quarter included a pretax gain of $12 million from antitrust settlements; this year’s quarter included a $6-million gain from antitrust settlements. Revenue for the Washington-based company was up slightly at $952 million. The company said profitability was affected when federally mandated access charge reductions fell significantly short of offsetting a 9% price cut. Results were aided by improved collections and benefits resulting from systems designed to curtail unauthorized use of MCI’s network.
