Negotiators for NBC and a striking broadcast union held their first meeting since the strike began on June 29. Little progress was made, and they agreed to resume talks at 10 a.m. EDT today in New York, a union spokesman said. The meeting between NBC and the National Assn. of Broadcast Employees and Technicians was held in the presence of a federal mediator, Timothy Germany. Job security issues raised by NBC’s hiring of temporary employees are among the major issues in the strike by 2,800 NABET technicians and news staffers who work for the network, its five TV stations, including KNBC in Los Angeles, and eight radio stations.
