Jury Pay
I would like to bring to your attention the outrage we felt in the Superior Court of Santa Monica on July 14, when one of the clerks in the assembly room, where all the prospective jurors sat patiently and waited to be called for a trial, announced that the Superior Court in Los Angeles had just lowered the $10-a-day stipend for jurors to $5 (Metro, July 15).
I think all citizens ought to be informed of this indignity. We the jurors serve at a great sacrifice to our time. We are subjected to long hours of unnecessary waiting in stuffy and crowded rooms, all on account of the poor management of the administration of the courts. They treat the jurors as though they are second-class citizens. It is our duty to serve, but I think that the courts ought to improve their administration and organization for the jury system to be more efficient and to conserve more of the precious time of the jurors.
