Torrance : Small Unions OK Pay Hikes

The city and six small municipal labor unions have reached agreements providing 4.5% increases in wages and benefits during the next year. Negotiations continue with police, firefighters and the Torrance Municipal Employees, the city’s largest union.

All the agreements approved this week, except for one with the Torrance Professional and Supervisory Assn., are to last one year. The pact for the 93 professionals and supervisors is for two years with a second-year raise tied to the cost of living.

Other bargaining units covered by agreements are the Torrance City Employees Assn., representing 125.5 clerical positions; the Torrance Library Employees Assn., 28 employees; the Torrance Professional Parks and Recreation Employees, 16 employees; the Torrance Library Employees Assn. (Part Time), part-time library employees, and the Torrance Recurrent Recreation Employees Organization, part-time recreation employees.

Unions that have not completed bargaining with the city represent 816 employees in the police, fire and other departments.
