El Toro : Park’s Developer Urged to Consider Child Care

Supervisor Gaddi H. Vasquez on Wednesday urged the developers of a business park east of El Toro to consider establishing child day-care at the site to reduce traffic.

“Given the fact that this will be a major employment center in southern Orange County, it’s time for us to apply a balance of employment and child day care close to the job site,” Vasquez said.

The supervisor’s comments came as he and his colleagues approved development of a business park, a research and development area and light industry facilities on a 444-acre parcel northeast of the Serrano Park planned community, east of Bake Parkway.

Once known as the Los Alisos Research and Development Park and now called Pacific Commercentre, the project’s business park section will have no buildings more than three stories tall because of the proximity of residential development, Vasquez said.

Developers must also ensure that new building does not worsen flooding problems for Serrano Park, the supervisor said.

Vasquez said the Los Alisos Development Co. of Irvine, developer of the property, was interested in his suggestions that child day-care be provided.

He said day-care near the workplace would cut down on potential trips by the several thousand employees expected at the site.
