The Senate is evenly split on the nomination of Robert H. Bork to the Supreme Court, according to a count made by Majority Whip Alan Cranston (D-Calif.). The count showed 45 supporting Bork, 45 opposing him and 10 undecided. No breakdown of the tally by party was given. The 45-45 split, if it holds until the Senate reaches a vote, means liberal Democrats could mount a successful filibuster against Bork even if the 10 who are undecided support the nomination. It takes 60 votes to halt a filibuster.
